OAKLAND — Today the California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) announced endorsements in Congressional, Senate, Assembly, and Local races across California ahead of the November 2020 primary election. EnviroVoters is committed to electing bold leaders with a bold approach to fighting the climate crisis.
“This November, we have the opportunity to elect desperately needed new leadership,” declares Mike Young EnviroVoters Political & Organizing Director “What our current crises have made abundantly clear is how badly we need public servants who will fight for our climate, stand up to corporate polluters, and protect their communities, especially the Black, Indigenous, and people of color who too often face systemic marginalization. At EnviroVoters we know that California and our Legislators need an intersectional approach to the climate crisis, and we are excited to endorse these candidates who we know will fight for each member of their community. These leaders will shape the future of our planet, and we look forward to working with them when they get into office.”
As the only organization in the environmental movement solely focused on changing what is possible through politics in California, EnviroVoters chose to support candidates who will ensure California has a clear pathway to a clean, zero-emission energy future. EnviroVoters seeks candidates who will fight for the safe and sustainable futures of their communities. Our opponents, Big Oil & friends, continue to dump money to politicians to push their destructive initiatives. EnviroVoters is unwavering in our mission to hold California leaders accountable to voters’ demands for bold action on the climate crisis–and not to the profit margins of Big Oil.
EnviroVoters’ continued priority focus on equitable solutions to the climate crisis, also means candidates we endorse must be actively anti-racist and willing to take down White Supremacy and the institutions it upholds. Environmental justice and racial justice go hand in hand. EnviroVoters assesses the positions and leadership of a candidate not only on the environment, environmental justice, and campaign viability but also on principles of racial justice and equity. EnviroVoters especially seeks to support racially diverse, LGBTQ+, and woman candidates.
The endorsed candidates have proven themselves to be the best choice for the environment in their race. We expect our endorsed candidates to commit to the fight for environmental and racial justice. The fight to protect our planet starts with fighting for the people who live on it. EnviroVoters is proud to continue working with lawmakers who are champions for justice. ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
